Police arrest man after woman detained - Burwood

A man has been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged domestic-related incident in Burwood earlier this week.

On Monday (14 June 2021), Officers from Burwood Police Area Command received reports of domestic-related incident between a woman and a man, who are known to each other.

Police have been told a 35-year-old woman was allegedly held against her will, assaulted and lifted over the side of a balcony at a unit on Elizabeth Street, Burwood on Monday evening (14 June 2021).

The woman was able to safely reach the balcony below and was assisted down by nearby residents. The matter was reported to police soon after.

The woman did not require medical treatment.

Detectives commenced an investigation and following inquiries, executed a search warrant at the Burwood unit this morning (Wednesday 16 June 2021), where a 36-year-old man was arrested.

During the search, police seized electronic devices, which will undergo forensic examination.

The man was taken to Burwood Police Station where he is expected to be charged.
