Police have charged a man after he was allegedly found with a firearm in the State's north this week.
About 10.40pm yesterday (Thursday 21 May 2026), officers attached to the Tweed/Byron Police District were patrolling the Tweed Heads area, when they located a man acting suspiciously around parked vehicles on Minjungbal Drive.
While speaking to the man – aged 42 – police allegedly located and seized a firearm and ammunition in his pocket.
Further inquiries determined he was wanted on outstanding warrants for alleged theft and fraud related offences.
The man was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with possess loaded firearm public place and possess ammunition without holding licence or permit or authority.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division – Court 2 today (Friday 22 May 2026) where he was further refused bail to reappear at Local Tweed Heads Court on Monday 25 May 2026.
