Police arrest man in stolen car

A man has been arrested in a stolen car at Prospect early this morning.

About 1.42am police received a call from the public about a blue stolen BMW in Brompton. Patrols and PolAir attended the area. PolAir located the car in West Street and tracked it from above.

The car travelled through back streets before being successfully spiked on Lamont Street Ridleyton causing damaged to the tyres. The BMW travelled a short distance before being dumped on Lilac Lane at Prospect where they driver ran from the car.

Patrols located the alleged driver on Prospect Road where he was arrested without incident.

The BMW has been stolen from Christies Beach on 1 January.

A 34 year-old man from Ridleyton was charged with driving at extreme speed, driving disqualified and driving dangerously to escape police pursuit. He has been refused police bail and will appear in court tomorrow.
