Police arrest man in stolen car in Frankston

A man has been arrested in Frankston after police observed him driving an allegedly stolen vehicle this morning.

Police noticed the vehicle driving at high speeds down an emergency lane on Peninsula Link just before 11.30am.

Police followed the vehicle to Dame Elizabeth Murdoch Park where they approached the parked car.

The driver attempted to lock himself in the car and officers forced entry and deployed OC spray.

The male allegedly armed himself with a blow torch and threatened police before fleeing on foot.

He ran into traffic on Cranbourne Road and was struck by a car.

The man tried to get into the car from the passenger-side but the woman inside managed to drive away.

The 36-year-old Seddon man was arrested a short time later and taken to hospital for observation and is now assisting police with their enquiries.

Police have not been able to identify the female driver that struck the man and she has not made contact with police at this stage.
