Over 55,000 Recycling Bin Lids Have Been Changed

Thanks to your efforts, we are ahead of schedule in changing all residential recycling bin lids in Knox from blue to yellow to meet new state government rules .

Over 55,000 recycling bin lids have been changed since the rollout began on 20 July. Thank you to everyone who has left their bin out on their usual recycling collection day so their lid could be changed. Your help has made this progress possible.

What to do if you still have a blue lid

For those still with a blue lid, thanks for your patience. There's no need to contact us, we'll get to you soon. Here's a reminder of what to do and what to expect:

  • Keep putting your recycling bin out every fortnight on your usual recycling collection day until you get your new lid.
  • The remaining recycling bin lid changes will be carried out by the same team and truck that collects your recycling waste.
  • Recycling collection trucks can only carry a limited number of new lids at a time. So, if your lid is not changed one day, it will be done on a future recycling collection day. Keep putting your recycling bin out on your usual recycling collection day for your lid to be changed.
  • Lid changes will be conducted during the day. There is no need to leave your bin out until 6pm.
  • Your recycling will be collected as normal whether your bin has a blue lid or a yellow lid.
  • If you haven't received your new yellow recycling bin lid by 1 February 2027, let us know.
