Police Charge Suspect After Extended Pursuit in Melbourne's Southeast

Police have charged three people following an extended follow throughout Melbourne's Southeastern suburbs this morning.

Police sighted an allegedly stolen Toyota Landcruiser Prado travelling at a fast rate of speed on Beach Road near the intersection with Charman Road in Beaumaris about 1.40am.

With the assistance of the Police Air Wing, the vehicle was tracked through Parkdale and Dandenong, before allegedly travelling on the wrong side of the South Gippsland Highway at speeds of up to 170km/h.

The alleged offenders were unaware the road was closed near the intersection with Fisheries Road and as they were travelling contraflow, the vehicle collided with water barriers and cyclone fencing that were being used to close the road for roadworks.

The vehicle travelled for a short distance before it's alleged the offenders dumped the vehicle and fled on foot.

Uniform members, with the assistance of the Air Wing and Dog Squad, arrested all four offenders.

It is understood the Toyota Landcruiser was stolen from Glen Iris on 25 October.

A 23-year-old Frankston man, a 24-year-old Frankston man, and a 25-year-old Seaford man have been charged with theft of motor vehicle and bailed to appear at Frankston Magistrates' Court on 5 March.

A 23-year-old Elwood man remains in hospital under police guard and is expected to be charged at a later date.
