Police arrest man over assault at Woodville Park

A man has been arrested over an assault at Woodville Park this morning.

Just before 11am on Thursday 2 March, police and ambulance crews were called to a business on Port Road after a man was assaulted by a man known to him.

It will be alleged the victim was hit in the head with a firearm before the suspect stole a truck and drove off.

Police located and seized the firearm at the scene.

The victim was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment. His injuries are not life-threatening.

The truck was subsequently found in Burdell Street, Elizabeth Downs and towed from the scene for forensic examination.

Police attended a nearby Elizabeth Downs address and arrested a suspect without incident.

The 40-year-old Elizabeth Downs man was charged with aggravated assault, firearms offences and illegal use of a motor vehicle. He was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow, Friday 3 March.

Police wish to reassure the community that the men involved were known to each other and this was not a random incident.

Anyone who witnessed this incident who has not yet spoken to police can provide their details via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
