Police arrest shoplifters in Launceston, TAS

Tasmania Police would like to thank members of the public who provided assistance in the recovery of over $4,000 worth of property stolen from retail businesses in the Launceston CBD yesterday, Tasmania Police say.

After receiving several reports of shoplifting from Launceston businesses on Saturday 13 October, police conducted searches around the CBD.

With the assistance of members of the public, they located and arrested one 22-year-old woman, a 20-year-old man and two female youths, all from Hobart, who were responsible for the thefts from up to 10 businesses.

The stolen property has been returned businesses and charges have been laid in relation to the offences.

The adults will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on 19 November while the youths will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.

"The prevention and detection of shoplifting is a key priority for Tasmania Police. We’re grateful for the information received from members of the public who were able to help us locate the offenders and recover the stolen property," said Acting Sergeant Angela Connors.
