Two teenagers have been arrested after $23,000 worth of equipment was allegedly stolen from a surf sports club in Wollongong on the weekend.
About 3.15am yesterday (Sunday 17 October 2021), members of the public alerted police after one of the club's buggies was allegedly stolen and driven on Bulli Beach before getting bogged in the sand.
Officers from Wollongong Police District attended a short time later and located the buggy unattended.
With the assistance of the members of the public, police removed the buggy from the sand and drove it back to the club's premises on Trinity Row.
On inspection, police saw the premises had been broken into and a number of items had been stolen, including a surf rescue board and a mega-phone.
The stolen items, including the buggy, are estimated to be worth about $23,000.
Police commenced an investigation into the incident.
Following inquiries and a public appeal for information, two teenage boys, aged 16 and 17, were arrested at Wollongong Police Station about 4.10pm today (Monday 18 October 2021).
The teens will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
