Police arrest teens after police pursuit - Taren Point

Two teenagers have been arrested and taken into custody following a police pursuit between Maroubra and Taren Point yesterday.

Between 4.45pm and 6.50pm on Thursday 24 October 2019, a silver 2001-model Mitsubishi Lancer was reported stolen from an address in Cartwright, south-west of Sydney.

About 9.50pm, officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command sighted the stolen car on Beauchamp Road, Maroubra.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle, however when the driver failed to comply a pursuit was initiated.

During the pursuit, the driver has allegedly forced his way between two stationary vehicles, causing minor damage to one vehicle, at Mascot before continuing southbound on General Holmes Drive.

Just before the airport tunnel, the car hit a concrete barrier deflating a front tyre; however, the driver continued south until he lost control at Holt Road, Taren Point, and hit a traffic light.

The 18-year-old male driver and his 17-year-old female passenger fled the crash scene but were arrested after a short foot pursuit.

They were checked by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Sutherland Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. They were then released back into police custody and taken to Sutherland Police Station.

The Bankstown man has been charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, take and drive conveyance, unlicensed driver, and not give particulars to other driver.

He's been granted conditional bail to appear before Sutherland Court on Thursday 11 November 2019.

The girl has been released pending further inquiries.
