Police arrest three men after large scale graffiti vandalism - Tweed/Byron

Three men will face court next month charged with graffiti related offences in the state's north.

About 5.50am yesterday (Friday 8 October 2021), it will be alleged that three men were seen to spray graffiti on a vehicle parked in Clifford Street, Byron Bay, when a member of the public challenged the men.

The men ran from the scene, but the witness was able to detain a 22-year-old man and contacted police.

Officers from Tweed/Byron Police District attended and arrested the man. He was later taken to Byron Bay Police Station.

Following inquires it was established that graffiti of an identical style had been sprayed on other vehicles and premises including a library and a school in surrounding suburbs.

Shortly after 7am officers attended a home in Macgregor Street, Suffolk Park, where another 22-year-old man and a 20-year-old man were arrested and taken to Byron Bay Police Station.

Electronic video recording devices owned by the men have been seized by police.

It will be alleged that the men commenced graffitiing from about 1.45am.

Removal of the graffiti is expected to cost in excess of $10,000.

All three men have each been charged with eight counts of intentionally mark premises etc without consent – aggravated. The man arrested in Clifford Street was also charged with possess graffiti implement with intent to contravene S4(2).

They have been granted conditional bail to appear at Byron Bay Local Court on Monday 1 November 2021.

Investigations are continuing.
