Police arrest two in stolen car, South Australia

Two men have been arrested after a short pursuit in a stolen car through the southern suburbs this morning.

About 5.40am on Tuesday 31 March, Southern District patrols spotted a silver Toyota Corolla travelling south on Commercial Road at Seaford Meadows. The patrol attempted to stop the vehicle as it was displaying incorrect plates. The driver refused to stop and the car was pursued onto Seaford Road, Grand Boulevard and a quick left onto Flag Street where it came to a stop.

The driver ran from the vehicle but was arrested without incident a short distance away. The passenger remained in the vehicle and was also arrested.

Investigations revealed the number plates had been stolen from a vehicle parked in a business premises on Main South Road at Morphett Vale and the car was a hire car that had been reported stolen at the beginning of the month.

The driver, a 24-year-old man from Seaford Meadows, was arrested for illegal use, driving dangerously to escape a police pursuit, displaying unassigned number plates, unlawful possession and driving disqualified. The passenger, a 26-year-old man from Marion, was arrested for illegal use and drug offences. The pair are expected to be refused bail and appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court today (Tuesday 31 March).
