Police arrest two men after serious assault in Shepparton

Detectives from Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit and Echo Taskforce have executed warrants across Melbourne this morning, arresting two men as part of an ongoing extortion investigation.

The warrants were executed about 6am at residences in Richmond and Caroline Springs, where a 53-year-old man and 34-year-old man were arrested respectively.

Officers also executed a search warrant at an OMCG clubhouse on Lipton Drive, Thomastown as part of the investigation.

Police seized ammunition and other items from the premises.

The pair are being interviewed by police in relation to an alleged serious assault in Shepparton late last year.

It is believed the two men forced entry into an Ashendon Street business about 9pm on 15 November 2019.

Armed with handguns, the pair made threats to kill the victim, a 50-year-old Shepparton man and made demands for a large sum of money.

They fled the scene empty handed and the victim was not physically injured during the incident.

The men are expected to be charged with extortion and other related offences.

The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report anonymously online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
