Police Arrest Two Men Over Online Child Sex Offences

This week, SA JACET investigators arrested two men from regional South Australia over alleged online child sex offences.

Investigators from SA JACET, a joint taskforce between SAPOL's Public Protection Branch and the Australian Federal Police (AFP), attended and searched two houses in the north of the state.

On Monday 22 June, a 26-year-old man from the State's Far North was arrested and charged with making a child amenable to sexual activity. He was refused bail and appeared in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court today, Tuesday 23 June.

In a separate and unrelated investigation, today, Tuesday 23 June, a 68-year-old man from the State's Mid North was arrested and charged with one count of possessing child exploitation material. He was refused police bail to appear in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court later today.

"We remind the public that possessing or distributing child exploitation material is not only illegal, but perpetuates further abuse," said Detective Inspector Matthew Fitzpatrick, Officer in Charge, Special Crimes Investigation Section.

"The dissemination of child exploitation material is a serious offence, that causes real harm to victims and the wider community. The SA JACET remain committed to identifying and prosecuting those responsible for sharing child exploitation material and communicating online to exploit children, the most vulnerable in our community."

Members of the public who have information about people involved in child abuse and exploitation are urged to contact Crime Stoppers at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or on 1800 333 000 or online at www.accce.gov.au/report. You can remain anonymous.
