New Small Business Commissioner Appointed 14 October

VIC Premier

The Carroll Government has appointed Greg Jennings as the new Victorian Small Business Commissioner.

Minister for Small and Family Business Natalie Suleyman welcomed Mr Jennings to the role for a three-year term.

Prior to his appointment, Mr Jennings was the Chief Engagement Officer at Beyond Blue.

There he led initiatives to promote workplace wellbeing, support small business owners and collaborate across government, community and industry.

Mr Jennings was also previously a Director at the Fair Work Ombudsman, bringing extensive experience to the role.

Mr Jennings replaces Interim Commissioner Tim Symons, who took on the role in March 2026 following Lynda McAlary-Smith's appointment as Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman.

The Victorian Small Business Commission advocates for small businesses, raising awareness of their rights and responsibilities.

It helps small businesses resolve disputes through early assistance and low-cost, impartial dispute resolution.

The Commission has also worked with 67 local councils to sign the Small Business Friendly Council Charter.

The Charter commits councils to champion a fair and competitive trading environment for small businesses.

Labor backs a fair go for small businesses - supporting the Commission to uphold their rights and resolve disputes.

The 2026-27 Victorian Budget provided $400,000 to the Commission to employ additional Dispute Resolution Officers to help more businesses access low-cost alternative dispute resolution services.
