Police arrest woman after infant death, South Australia

A woman has been charged with criminal neglect following the death of an infant in April 2021.

During the morning on Friday 23 April, a 21-day-old infant boy from Christie Downs was brought to the Noarlunga Hospital by his parents. The infant was unresponsive, unable to be revived and was pronounced deceased soon afterward.

The infant's death was declared a Major Crime and the investigation was undertaken by Detectives from Southern District CIB and Major Crime Investigation Branch.

About 10am on Friday 18 June, Southern District Detectives arrested a 31-year-old man from Christie Downs and charged him with manslaughter and criminal neglect.

Today (Friday 4 February), Southern District Detectives arrested a 33-year-old woman from Christie Downs and charged her with criminal neglect. She was granted police bail to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 31 March.

Both accused people were known to the victim.
