Police car damaged at Murray Bridge, South Australia

A police car has been damaged during a violent disturbance at Murray Bridge overnight.

Just before 2am on Friday 14 May, police were called to Myall Avenue after a resident reported noisy music and large gathering at a house in the street.

On police arrival, they noticed about 20 people at the home all appeared to be intoxicated and they soon became aggressive towards the patrol.

The incident soon escalated with the police patrol calling for further assistance and having to use capsicum spray to keep the group at bay.

The patrol were then forced to retreat, after the group started throwing numerous bottles towards them.

To avoid injury the patrols had to abandon a police car in the street, which was subsequently damaged by the group throwing rocks and bottles at the vehicle.

The police car was eventually retrieved, but it was extensively damaged with the front windscreen shattered by a large rock, a rear window was smashed and side panels were damaged.

There have been no arrests to date, with Murray Bridge Police to make extensive enquiries later today.

Fortunately their were no injuries to any police.
