Police Charge Driver After Pursuit - West Bathurst

A man has been charged after a pursuit and crash in the state's west earlier today.

About 10.00am on Wednesday 18 June 2025, officers attached to Chifley Police District Proactive Crime Team were patrolling Cutler Street, West Bathurst when they sighted a black BMW sedan without number plates.

Police attempted to stop the driver of the black BMW, the driver did not stop and a pursuit was initiated when the driver failed to stop.

The pursuit continued through the suburbs of Windrayne and Robin Hill, before being terminated due to safety concerns.

A short time later, police stopped a vehicle on the Mitchell Highway, Robin Hill. Inside the vehicle was the male who police allege was driving during the earlier pursuit and was now a back seat passenger in the vehicle. This male was arrested. As police attempted to effect the arrest, the man allegedly punched officers and spat at police.

It is alleged during the arrest, the 26-year-old man resisted officers and OC Spray was deployed.

He was taken to Bathurst Police Station where he charged with 10 offences:

- Police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly

- Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous

- Drive whilst disqualified

- Use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed

- Drive unregistered vehicle on road or road related area

- Use uninsured motor vehicle on road

- Assault police officer in execution of duty

- Acquire ammunition subject to prohibition order

- Hinder/resist law enforcement officer in execution of duty, and

- Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm.

He was refused bail to appear in Bathurst Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 19 June 2025).
