A man has been charged following a serious crash in Matraville earlier this year.
About 12.25pm on Saturday 22 March 2025, emergency services were called to Botany Road, Matraville, following reports of a crash.
Officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command attended and found a van had crashed into a pole.
The driver – a 46-year-old man – self-extricated from the vehicle.
The front occupant – a 29-year-old woman – was trapped for some time before being extricated by the Police Rescue Squad.
Both occupants were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics.
The man suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for further assessment and mandatory testing.
The woman was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries; she has since been released.
Initial inquiries revealed the man's NSW driver's licence was suspended.
A crime scene was established, and investigations commenced by the Crash Investigation Unit into the circumstances of the crash.
Following further investigations, today (Sunday 29 June 2025) the 46-year-old man was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice for negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and drive motor vehicle while licence suspended.
He will appear before Waverly Local Court on Tuesday 5 August 2025.
