Police charge driver over Birkenhead fatal crash, South Australia

A driver has been charged over a fatal crash at Birkenhead last month.

About 5.30pm on Sunday 17 October, police responded to a two-car crash at the corner of Semaphore Road and Fletcher Road.

The Toyota driver, an 80-year-old woman from Largs Bay, sadly died at the scene. A young girl who was a rear passenger in the car was taken to the Women's and Children's Hospital with minor injuries.

A 32-year-old Woodville West man driving a Holden sedan was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. His passenger, also a 32-year-old man from Woodville West, was not injured.

Following investigations, tonight Major Crash officers arrested the Holden driver and charged him with aggravated cause death by dangerous driving, aggravated cause serious harm and drive unlicensed.

He was refused police bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow, Wednesday 10 November.
