Police charge driver with police pursuit, robbery - St Marys

A man will face court today charged with robbery, reckless driving and stealing a car in St Marys.

About 11.20am (Tuesday 18 February 2020), officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attempted to stop a white Toyota Hilux for a traffic check.

Police allege the driver ignored the direction and a pursuit was initiated on Brisbane Street, St Marys.

The pursuit continued for a brief time before the Hilux failed to negotiate a left turn and crashed into a number of trees.

The driver got out of the car and allegedly threatened a motorbike rider with physical violence before taking his bike.

The man then allegedly rode the bike a short distance before abandoning it on Cook Place.

Following a short foot pursuit, the 21-year-old man was arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station.

He was then transported to Nepean Hospital for a medical examination before being taken to Mt Druitt Police Station.

He was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent, unlicensed for class (x2), police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly and robbery.

He was refused bail to appear in Mt Druitt Local Court later today.
