Police charge man after almost 10kg of cannabis found in car at Broken Hill

A man has been charged after almost 10kg of cannabis was located in a car during a vehicle stop in the state's far west.

About 7.30pm yesterday (Saturday 14 September 2019), officers from Barrier Police District stopped a Holden Commodore on the Barrier Highway, Broken Hill.

Two men in the car, a 58-year-old and a 38-year-old, were spoken to, before the vehicle was searched.

Inside the back of the station wagon, officers allegedly located 19 bags containing 9.5kg of cannabis, with a street value of $190,000.

The men were arrested and taken to Broken Hill Police Station.

The younger man was charged with possess prohibited drug, and supply cannabis between indictable and commercial quantity.

He was refused bail to appear at Broken Hill Local Court today (Sunday 15 September 2019).

The older man was released pending further inquiries.
