A man has been charged following an armed robbery at a licensed premises in Lake Macquarie last week.
About 9.30pm on Friday 9 January 2026, police were called to a venue on Park Street, Edgeworth, following reports of an armed robbery.
Lake Macquarie Police attended the scene and were told a man had allegedly attended with a firearm before threatening staff and demanding cash.
Staff and patrons were able to wrestle the man to the ground and remove the firearm prior to the arrival of police.
A 36-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Toronto Police Station before being taken to the John Hunter Hospital for the treatment of a laceration to his arm.
No injuries were reported by the staff or patrons of the venue.
Upon the man's release from hospital on Saturday 10 January 2026, he was taken to Belmont Police Station.
There he was charged with five offences,
- Robbery while armed with dangerous weapon
- Possess unauthorised firearm
- Possess loaded firearm public place
- Armed with intent commit indictable offence, and
- Face blackened/disguised with intent commit indictable offence.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 yesterday (Sunday 11 January 2026), where he was formally refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday 18 March 2026.
