A man will face court charged following an alleged armed robbery in the state's central west overnight.
Officers attached to Central West Police District were called to Moulder Street, Orange, about 9.50pm yesterday (Monday 30 March 2026), following reports of an armed robbery.
On arrival, police were told a man had allegedly produced a large knife and threatened to stab another man – aged in his 40s – who was walking his dog at the time, before demanding his wallet and mobile phone.
The man then allegedly ran from the scene after stealing the phone.
Following inquiries, about 9.53pm the same day, police located a 32-year-old man riding a push bike along Bathurst Road, Orange.
After a short pursuit – with the man abandoning his bike and fleeing on foot – police arrested the man near a train station, allegedly seizing a knife and a mobile phone during the arrest, along with a car key, jewellery and a driver's licence believed to have been stolen.
The man was taken to Orange Police Station where he was charged with:
- Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle),
- Use etc offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence,
- Robbery armed with offensive weapon, and
- Custody of knife in public place
He was refused bail to face Bail Division Court 4 today (Tuesday 31 March 2026).
