Police Charge Man After Assault At Shellharbour

A man has been charged following an alleged serious assault in the Illawarra last week.

About 10.40pm on Friday 23 January 2026, emergency services were called to Addison Street, Shellharbour, following reports of an alleged assault, which left a man injured on the footpath.

NSW Ambulance responded and treated a 36-year-old man for a broken jaw, a fractured eye socket and other head injuries. He was taken to Wollongong Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District responded and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, a 21-year-old man was arrested at Lake Illawarra Police Station about 11:25am yesterday (Tuesday 27 January 2026).

He has been charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 3 today (Wednesday 28 January 2026).
