Police Charge Man After Assault - Balmain

A man will face court over an alleged assault in Balmain yesterday.

About 10am yesterday (Wednesday 2 July 2025), emergency services responded to reports of an assault in the basement of a unit complex on Darling Street, Balmain.

Officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command were told a 74-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by a man not known to him.

The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics with injuries to his face, nose, and eyes before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.

Police arrested a 49-year-old man at the scene.

He was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and common assault.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Thursday 3 July 2025).
