Police charge man after Blackburn North kidnapping

Armed Crime Squad detectives have charged a man following a kidnapping incident in Blackburn North on Monday 23 August.

The 36-year-old man was arrested at a property in Mitcham about 7.20pm last night and subsequently interviewed by detectives.

He was today charged with two counts of kidnapping, aggravated burglary (offensive weapon), armed robbery, false imprisonment, three counts of common law assault and theft of motor vehicle.

He has been remanded to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates' Court tomorrow.

The charges follow an incident at a Springfield Road property about 8.45am on Monday, 23 August.

Police will allege the man entered the property while a mother and two children were inside.

The male allegedly assaulted the 32-year-old woman then left the property in the family's black Mercedes Benz, taking the children with him.

The children were later located inside the stolen vehicle at a property on Cochrane Street before four people were arrested at the address.

Two men and a woman have since been released without charge.

Police are treating the matter as a targeted incident.
