Police charge man after breaching firearm prohibition order

A Clyde North man has been charged with breaching the conditions of a Firearm Prohibition Order after Dandenong police allegedly found him in possession of a firearm and a small amount of ammunition.

On 14 November at about 3.15pm, police were called to a residential address in Welwyn Court, Keysborough after a concerned community member reported a suspicious vehicle loitering in a driveway with the driver allegedly sighted with a firearm.

Upon arrival, police cordoned off the property and initiated negotiations with the 39-year-old man who refused to leave the address.

While negotiating with the man, police conducted a search of his vehicle where they located a machete, approximately $300 cash, and a small amount of what is alleged to be cocaine, methamphetamine, cannabis, and prescription medication.

After approximately two hours, police successfully negotiated the man's surrender and conducted a search of the property, where they located a loaded single barrel shotgun in a garden shed alongside six shotgun rounds.

The 39-year-old man was taken to the Dandenong Police Station where he was interviewed and charged with possess drug of dependence and possess prohibited weapon.

Further enquires are being conducted in relation to possess of firearm.

He has been remanded to appear before the Dandenong Magistrates' Court on 30 November.
