Police charge man after car burglaries in Launceston area

A 47 year old Launceston man has been charged over a series of car burglaries in the Launceston area.

In the early hours of Thursday 7 January, police located a 47-year-old man from Launceston in a vehicle in the Invermay area. The man was not the owner of the vehicle.

The man was subsequently charged with a series of motor vehicle burglaries in the Trevallyn, Mowbray, and Invermay areas, which had occurred between 26 December 2020 and 7 January 2021. He was charged with: – burglary x 12 (eleven which related to burglary of motor vehicles), 8 x stealing, 1 x aggravated burglary and assault police.

He appeared in the Launceston Magistrates Court today and was remanded in custody to reappear on 11 March 2021.

Police want to remind the community to secure their vehicles and not leave valuables in them, and if possible, park vehicles in garages or driveways and not on the street overnight.
