Police Charge Man After Choking Woman At Orange

A man has faced court charged over a serious alleged domestic violence incident in the state's central west during Operation Amarok.

Operation Amarok 14 was held from Friday 14 August 2026 to Sunday 16 August 2026 across the state, focused on identifying domestic and family violence offenders who present an increased threat to victims because of their capability, intent and access.

The operation is intelligence-led and offender-focused, aiming to ensure the safety and wellbeing of domestic and family violence victims and the broader community.

About 2.30pm Friday 14 August 2026, officers attached to Central West Police District launched an investigation into a report of a domestic violence incident in Orange.

Police were told a woman had allegedly been choked by a man – known to her – at a home in Orange, the same afternoon.

About 7pm the same day, police arrested a 33-year-old man at the home and took him to Orange Police Station.

During a search of the residence, police seized 18 grams of cocaine with an estimated potential street value of $5000, approximately 8.7 grams of MDMA, cannabis, scales, drug testing kits, needles, other drug supply paraphernalia, and restricted prescribed substances.

The man was charged with 15 offences,

  • Common assault (DV) (two counts)
  • Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV)
  • Intentionally choke etc person without consent (DV)
  • Possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance (eight counts)
  • Supply prohibited drug greater than indictable and less than commercial quantity (two counts)
  • Possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail and appeared before Bail Division Court 4 on Saturday 15 August 2026, where he was granted strict conditional bail to reappear before Orange Local Court today (Tuesday 18 August 2026).
