A man has been charged following an alleged copper theft at Charmhaven early yesterday morning.
About 2.30am (Sunday 26 July 2026), police attended Hobson Avenue following reports of an alleged copper theft.
At the scene, officers located a man allegedly removing copper cabling from a pit near the intersection of Chelmsford Road.
Police will also allege in court that the man had stolen copper cabling from another pit on nearby Panorama Avenue.
During a search of the man's vehicle, police allegedly located and seized more cables, bolt cutters, and other cutting tools.
The vehicle was towed from the scene for further examination.
During a search of the man, a knife and prescribed restricted substances were alleged located.
The 38-year-old man was arrested and taken to Wyong Police Station.
There he was charged with five offences,
- Larceny value less than or equal to $2000
- Destroy or damage property less than or equal to $2000
- Possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance (two counts), and
- Have custody of an offensive implement in a public place.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 6 yesterday (Sunday 26 July 2026), where he was formally refused bail to appear before Wyong Local Court on Wednesday 5 August 2026.
