Police charge man after copper thefts from construction sites

Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a 45-year-old man following a series of thefts from houses under construction.

The offender is alleged to be responsible for thefts where he targeted copper, stealing electrical wiring and copper pipe from several sites in Truganina, Tarneit, Werribee and Wyndham Vale between March and November.

A Laverton man has been charged with 122 counts of theft, commit indictable offence whilst on bail and dealing in the proceeds of crime.

He was bailed to appear at the Werribee Magistrates' Court on 8 February 2022.

Investigators worked closely with scrap metal recyclers and the building industry as part of the investigation.
