A man has been charged after allegedly driving dangerously and reaching speeds up to 190km/h, before producing a fake licence in Sydney's west.
Just before 10am yesterday (Tuesday 14 September 2021), officers from North West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad Penrith (RES) were travelling east on the M4 at Huntingwood, in an unmarked police vehicle, when the driver of a Toyota Yaris allegedly overtook them at speed.
The officers followed the car at a safe distance for a short time and observed the driver allegedly reach speeds up to 190km/h, while driving erratically.
Officers activated their sirens and stopped the driver on the M4 at Blacktown.
Police spoke to the driver – a 21-year-old man – who produced what he claimed to be an international driver's licence.
Further checks revealed the licence was fake and the driver had previously been suspended from driving.
He was subsequently arrested and taken to Blacktown Police Station, where he was charged with drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, drive when visiting privileges withdrawn, use false document to influence exercise of public duty, knowingly produce false/misleading document: state law, and class A motor vehicle exceed speed greater than 45 km/h.
The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Blacktown Local Court on Tuesday 12 October 2021.
