Police charge man after drugs and prohibited weapon seized - South Coast

A man has been charged after drugs, a firearm and a prohibited weapon were allegedly seized during a vehicle stop on the state's South Coast.

Just after 9pm on Wednesday (26 May 2021), officers attached to the South Coast Police District saw a Holden utility towing a trailer travelling along Elizabeth Drive, Vincentia, without its lights on.

Police stopped the Holden and spoke to the driver, a 29-year-old man.

A number of vehicle defects were detected and during a subsequent search of the utility, officers allegedly uncovered a .22 calibre bolt action rifle, which was wrapped in a sheet on the front passenger seat, along with cannabis, a flick knife, and ammunition.

The man was arrested and taken to Bay and Basin Police Station where he was charged with ten offences, including possess unregistered firearm in public place, not keep firearm safely, possess prohibited weapon, possess ammunition without a permit, and possess prohibited drug.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in Nowra Local Court on Monday 21 June 2021.
