Police charge man after Elwood fatal collision

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a Brighton man following a fatal collision in Elwood last night.

Emergency services were called after a Holden utility collided with a Nissan sedan on Ormond Esplanade, near the intersection of Pine Avenue, about 10.45pm.

The driver of the Nissan, a 24-year-old Caulfield South man, died at the scene.

The 23-year-old driver of the Holden has been charged with culpable driving causing death.

He will appear before an out-of-session court hearing tonight.

Investigators believe the Holden utility may have been travelling on Ormond Esplanade for some distance prior to the collision and are appealing for any homeowners that may have CCTV footage to come forward.
