Police Charge Man After Erratic Driving In Richmond

Police have charged a man following a pursuit and several crashes in Melbourne's inner east yesterday evening.

Officers spotted a grey Ford Ranger allegedly overtake them on Highett Street in Richmond about 6.50pm.

The vehicle is alleged to have been travelling on three wheels into oncoming traffic, forcing motorists to take evasive action.

A short police pursuit took place before the Ford crashed on York Street.

The driver allegedly fled on foot but was arrested a short distance away.

The 49-year-old man allegedly returned a positive oral fluid test and a quantity of drugs were seized from the vehicle.

It is alleged the Ford crashed into several vehicles in the Richmond, Collingwood and Fitzroy areas.

A 57-year-old female pedestrian was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after she fell fleeing the scene.

The Oakleigh man has been charged with dangerous driving while pursued by police, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, criminal damage, possess drug of dependence, drug driving and other traffic offences.

He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court later today.
