Police charge man after Essendon armed robbery

Armed Crime Squad detectives have charged a man following an alleged attempted armed robbery at a gaming venue in Essendon last Friday night.

A 30-year-old Airport West man was arrested at a property in Airport West about 8am this morning.

He has been charged with attempted armed robbery and common law assault.

The man is expected to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court later today.

The charges follow an alleged incident at a gaming venue on Hoffmans Road, Essendon on 10 May.

The man entered the venue armed with a knife and made an unsuccessful demand for cash before leaving empty handed.
