Prahan Highway Patrol officers have charged a man after an allegedly stolen vehicle was spotted travelling through Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs this morning.
Officers were investigating reports of the stolen Audi A1 sedan being driven through Mount Waverley about 10am.
With assistance from the Police Air Wing, officers followed the Audi A1 sedan through the suburbs of Chadstone, Mount Waverley, Mulgrave and Malvern about 10am.
It is alleged that the vehicle was dumped and the same driver stole a Toyota RAV4, parked on George Street, in Malvern East.
The Toyota was followed before crashing into a fence on John Street.
The alleged driver fled on foot before being arrested on Broadman Street.
A 29-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, deal proceeds of crime, drug driving and weapons offences.
He will appear before the Melbourne Magistrates' Court later today.
