Police charge man after firearms, ammunition seized near Gunnedah

A man has been charged with firearm offences after police seized three firearms, firearm parts and ammunition from a property near Gunnedah.

Shortly after 12am yesterday (Wednesday 30 June 2021), officers attached to Oxley Police District responded to reports of gunshots fired at a home on Darby Road, Spring Ridge, approximately 65km south of Gunnedah.

Police attended and spoke with the occupant of the home.

Entry was forced to a bedroom where a man, aged 31, was arrested without incident.

A crime scene was established after police observed a firearm and property believed to be the proceeds of crime in the room.

During a subsequent search warrant, police seized three rifles, firearm parts and ammunition, more than 40 mobile phones and laptops, and a large quantity of power tools suspected stolen.

The man was taken to Gunnedah Police Station and charged with two counts of possess unauthorised firearm, not keep firearm safely, and possess ammunition without licence/ permit.

He was also charged with intimidation and two counts of destroy property relating to an unrelated matter last month.

The man was refused bail to appear before Tamworth Local Court today (Thursday 1 July 2021).

Investigations are ongoing.
