Detectives from the Homicide Squad have today charged a man as part of their investigation into the death of a man in Greenvale earlier this year.
A 48-year-old Mickleham man was arrested this morning and has subsequently been charged with one count of murder and assault.
He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court later today.
The man was previously arrested by investigators on Monday, 31 March. He was interviewed at the time and released pending further enquiries.
The murder charge follows an incident where police were initially called to reports of a physical altercation at a residential building site on Supreme Avenue in Greenvale at approximately 12.45pm on Sunday, 30 March.
On arrival, they located a 42-year-old Meadow Heights man with facial injuries and a 48-year-old Mickleham man.
After speaking with the pair police left the scene.
It's believed the parties involved were known to each other.
Shortly before 4pm that same day, the 42-year-old man was dropped at an Epping hospital suffering critical injuries.
Hospital staff subsequently notified the police the following day due to concerns about how he had obtained his injuries.
Investigators will allege a further assault had taken place post the police attendance.
Police were notified on Tuesday, 15 April that the victim had passed away in hospital and detectives from the Homicide Squad took over the investigation.
The assault charge relates to an assault which police will allege occurred at a construction site in Mickleham on 23 November, 2024.
The two men again attended a hospital in Epping, and the 42-year-old Meadow Heights man was admitted for two days to be treated for head injuries.
On Thursday, 17 July police arrested a 58-year-old Taylors Hill man at his home address.
He was interviewed by police and released without charge pending further enquiries.
