Police Charge Man After Hit-and-run Crash At Richmond

A man will face court charged after an alleged fatal hit-and-run in Sydney's north-west last week.

Emergency services were called to Old Kurrajong Road at Richmond about 7.45pm on Sunday 16 November 2025, after a passing motorist noticed a man lying about 3m from the roadway.

The motorist rendered assistance to the 23-year-old man until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived; however, the man died at the scene.

Officers from Hawkesbury Police Area Command secured a crime scene that was later examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

Inquiries established that the man was struck by an unknown vehicle that allegedly failed to stop after the crash.

Approximately an hour later, police attended a paddock off Kurmond Road, North Richmond, following a report of a Nissan Navara utility leaving the roadway and crashing into bushland.

A 41-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries before being taken to Westmead Hospital for assessment.

A secondary crime scene was established at the location and the vehicle was seized for forensic examination.

Following inquiries, about 5.45pm yesterday (Friday 21 November 2025), officers arrested a 41-year-old man at an address in McGraths Hill.

He was taken to Windsor Police Station where he was charged with:

  • Fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death
  • Dangerous driving occasioning death-drive manner dangerous
  • Negligent driving (occasioning death)
  • Dangerous driving occasioning death-drive under influence; and,
  • Drive vehicle under influence of alcohol.

The man was refused bail to appear at Local Bail Division – Court 6 today (Saturday 22 November 2025).
