Police charge man after home invasion at Tamworth

A man has been charged following a home invasion in the state's North East.

About 6pm on Sunday 11 December 2022, a 27-year-old woman was in her home on Tingira Street, Tamworth, when she was allegedly confronted by a man who entered the home via an unlocked door and threatened her with a machete.

It will be further alleged that he assaulted the woman and took a sum of cash before he fled the scene.

The woman's two children – a boy aged 7 and a girl aged 5 – were home at the time and were unharmed.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District attended and established a crime scene.

Following inquiries, about 8.25am today (Tuesday 13 December 2022), police attended a home on Johnson Street, Tamworth and arrested a 26-year-old man.

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with the following offences:

  • Aggravated break, enter and steal
  • Armed with intent commit indictable offence
  • Assault occasioning actual bodily harm

He was bail refused to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Tuesday 13 December 2022).
