Police charge man after loaded handgun found in car - Tregear

A man has been charged over the alleged possession of a loaded pistol in Sydney's west.

About 9.20pm yesterday (Wednesday 28 October 2020), officers from Police Transport Command (PTC) were conducting a patrol of Whalan Reserve on Debrincat Avenue, Tregear, when they saw a silver Subaru Liberty sedan parked on the side of the road.

After speaking with an occupant, police searched the vehicle and located a loaded Glock handgun under the front passenger seat.

Four rounds of ammunition was also found allegedly in the man's pocket, and two more within the vehicle.

The 44-year-old man was arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station where he was charged with four offences

• Possess unauthorised pistol

• Not keep firearm safely

• Acquire firearm without licence or permit, and

• Possess ammunition without holding a licence/permit.

The man from Casula was refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court today (Thursday 29 October 2020).
