Police charge man after luxury goods worth $460,000 stolen in Sydney City

A man has been charged after almost 100 luxury items – worth more than $460,000 – were stolen from a store in Sydney on New Year's Day.

Police will allege about 3.30am last Saturday (1 January 2022), a man forced entry to a luxury goods store on George Street and left a short time later, taking a handbag.

The man re-entered the store with two wheelie bins and left shortly after, taking more handbags and clothing in the bins.

The estimated value of the items stolen – which amount to almost 100 items – is more than $460,000.

Officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command were notified of the incident and commenced investigations.

Following inquiries, police attended a motel on Liverpool Road, Ashfield, and arrested a 38-year-old man.

Several items were located and seized within a hotel room, including three luxury handbags.

He was taken to Burwood Police Station where he was charged with break and enter steal value (more than $60,000).

The man was refused bail and will appear at Burwood Local Court today (Friday 14 January 2022).
