Police charge man after Melbourne East death

Homicide Squad detectives have charged a 36-year-old man following a fatal assault in Melbourne East this morning.

The man, of no fixed address, has this evening been charged with one count of murder.

He appeared before a bail justice where he was remanded in custody to reappear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court tomorrow.

It's alleged he fatally assaulted a 52-year-old man in Fitzroy Gardens about 6.50am.

The Ringwood man was treated at the scene, however passed away shortly after.

Investigators would like to speak to any witnesses or anyone who saw unusual behaviour in the area prior to the incident.
