Police charge man after officer stabbed in Torquay

A man has been charged after a police officer was seriously injured in Torquay yesterday afternoon.

The 49-year-old man has been charged with one count of attempted murder and assault emergency service worker on duty.

The charges follow an alleged incident in Golden Beach Way where a male senior constable was stabbed while attending an address for a welfare check about 4.30pm.

The officer is receiving treatment in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Torquay man has been remanded in custody to appear before Geelong Magistrates' Court today.
