Police charge man after Penguin incident

A 36-year-old Penguin man has been charged following an incident in Penguin last night.

The man has been charged with 2x Aggravated Assault, Assault Police, Threaten Police, and 3x Possess Firearm without a Licence. He will appear before the Burnie Magistrates Court at 11am this morning.

Police will allege that at around 6.45pm last night a report was received of a man sighted on Main Street carrying a firearm.

Police attended and located the man a short time later on a driveway on Main Road.

Police will allege the man threatened police with a firearm before he was safely taken into custody.

Police seized the weapon used in the incident which was a replica firearm. Police also located another replica firearm in a search following the arrest which police will allege belonged to the charged man.
