Police charge man after police operation - Eastlakes

A man will face court today charged following a seven-hour police operation in Sydney's south yesterday.

Just before 9am (Tuesday 9 February 2021), officers from South Sydney Police Area Command were called to Universal Street, Eastlakes, after concerns were raised for the welfare of a male resident.

Extensive inquiries were conducted to locate the man, including searches of a number of residences.

With the assistance from specialist police including the Tactical Operations Unit and negotiators, the 29-year-old man was arrested at a nearby apartment just after 4pm and taken to Mascot Police Station.

Two search warrants were executed at premises in Eastlakes and Redfern with officers seizing a replica firearm, a samurai sword, handwritten notes, and a mobile phone. These items will be forensically examined.

The man was charged with possess unauthorised pistol and refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Wednesday 10 February 2021).
