Police Charge Man After Pursuit At Lake Macquarie 24 July

A man will face court today charged following a pursuit in Lake Macquarie yesterday.

About 5.45pm (Thursday 23 July 2026), police were called to Huntly Close, Edgeworth, following reports a stolen car was observed on the road.

Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District attended and observed the vehicle, which drove from the scene upon police arrival.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle and when it did not stop, a pursuit was initiated.

During the pursuit, police successfully deployed road spikes, with the vehicle coming to a stop on Hyndes Street, West Wallsend.

The driver – a 36-year-old man – and a passenger, were arrested and taken to Toronto Police Station.

The passenger was released pending further inquiries.

The driver was charged with four offences,

  • Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously (two counts)
  • Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, and
  • Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today (Friday 24 July 2026).
