Police Charge Man After Pursuit - Beresfield

A man has been charged with alleged traffic offences following a pursuit near Beresfield early yesterday morning.

About 2.15am yesterday (Monday 28 July 2025), police were patrolling Kingstown Road, Woodberry, when they allegedly observed a grey Holden Commodore travelling at speed.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued along Greenway Avenue and Woodberry Road before the driver allegedly crashed into the fence of a property on Annette Close, Woodberry.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle – a 27-year-old man – was not injured and was arrested at the scene.

During the arrest, the man allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted a police officer.

A subsequent search of the man allegedly revealed 0.52g of methamphetamine which has been seized.

At Maitland Police Station, the man was charged with five offences:

  • Police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly,
  • Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period,
  • Assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm,
  • Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, and
  • Possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 yesterday (Monday 28 July 2025), where he was formally refused bail to appear before Maitland Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 30 July 2025).
